Surface decoration with engobes

In this course you will learn how to take your ceramic pieces to another level decorating them with engobes. Engobes are pigment based colors specifically designed for application on raw clay in a variety of techniques.

You will learn the following techniques:

Sgraffito: Color the surface of the clay and engrave a design

Mishima: This is an etching technique that will allow you to achieve designs with fine colored lines

Transfer: With this technique you can draw onto the clay with the help of a transfer sheet

In all cases we will be working on leather hard clay slabs, which will be provided for the course. There is no need to bring anything to the class. However, if you like you can bring photocopies of patterns and designs you would like to work with.

Once the course is finished your pieces will stay in the studio for drying and firing. All the pieces will be glazed with a glossy transparent glaze. We will let you know once your pieces are ready for pick up.
